1,000 paper cranes.
I'd have to say that the past three weeks were rather hellish.
To sum up...Helen Wallace, one of my closest friends, a recent roomate, and my greatest collaborator passed away, Wednesday the 6th of July, at 7 am. Its taken me until her memorial service this past Saturday to really accept it. I'm at peace with her death. I do not grieve. I was at peace with it since before she died, for I spent every scrap of time I could spare watching her slowly disintegrate.
The shock of it happened for me the Saturday before her passing, when I found out that her supposed beaten breast cancer had spread to her lungs, around her lungs, her liver, and her bones. Her kidney's were failing, and her lungs were literally being torn apart, slowly and painfully. She had been at the hospital for 8 days already, for what I thought was pneumonia and water in her lungs. But the things the doctors were telling me weren't adding up. They were giving her biopsies in all the wrong places, and taking their bloody time with the whole thing. My sister and mother had had pneumonia, and nobody needed to be hospitalized. Helen was running a fever the entire time, and not responding to the broad spectrum antibiotics. My mother came in (after working a week in NY) to bully the doctors into telling her what is really going on. So...going from an innocent pneumonia, a mere side effect of cancer treatment, to an army of cancer cells ravaging her body....well...you can imagine for yourselves.
She rapidly deterioated since saturday. She was intubated Sunday morning, and sent out a message to all her friends desperately wanting to see them before she went under. However the doctors couldn't wait, and she was sedated in ICU with a number of uncomfortable tubes sticking out of her mouth. She would pass into conciousness now and again, and I was lucky to speak to her a few times. It was difficult to see her gasping and mouthing around the tubes trying to say something like "hug me" and "where?" and she persisted with a vengence until everyone in the room knew what she was saying, which as even harder to watch. We lavished her with stuffed animals, hugs, foot massages, and anything futile we thought we could do for her. She nearly jumped out of her bed when Adriel gave her a plastic batman teddy bear.
I spent all day at the hospital on Monday and Tuesday. I debated wether or not to go to Augenblick, but everyone assured me I could.
I found out on the way up into the building Wednesday morning.
So for the past fortnight I was obsessing with making her 1,000 paper cranes. All of us, her friends/family pitched in and we got them to her at an alarmingly fast rate. I even managed to string up 300 of them into a mobile for the service.
Hopefully the Crane God found you, Helen, and will bring you to your father. I will never stop loving you or thinking of you.

I'M BACK
I'm back! So much is going on and I regret not getting to blog about it! I guess the next bunch of posts won't be what I've done "today" per say, but what's been going on.
For starters, yesterday was the season 2 premiere of Ugly Americans! Here's a clip:

The creater of the show got the whole studio "Camp Friendship" T-shirts and we hung out at a bar. I got to meet an animation producer from nickleodean, and chat with people from the studio I normally never talk to. Was also on a "backgrounds" rampage the past two days. Almost finished 8...ALMOST!

CATHARSIS
*exhales* whoooo.....guys keep complaining that they don't understand women. Fuck, sometimes we don't even get ourselves. Thankfully, a friend of mine gave me some good tips on how to get in touch with your inner self through art (something I've always had trouble with). So, I decided to just....let it flow. Just paint whatever I felt like as it came to me. I guess my favorite (and most duh) part of his advice was to leave it unfinished. So....the second I'd start getting bored with it, I'd just stop. Pencils down.

ZOMBIES AND A PROBLEM WITH HEADS
On Friday I sculpted a zombie head based on a zombie sketch I did.
I think I'm O.K. with his eyes being a touch crooked....
I also sculpted a horse head today. I need to sculpt *SOMETHING*, and what started out as a human head, ended up being a horse head.
I realized that as an artist....I sculpt and own sculpts of plenty of heads. I think its safe to say that I have sculpted/own about...*counts*....13. This doesn't count the ones that actually have bodies. I don't know if its because heads are so easy to sculpt and cheaper to buy, or because they are more expressive, but I have too many of them. And all of them are incomplete. Most of them are too big for me to make bodies for. Materials are costly and the process becomes more tedious than enjoyable.

SANDY FISHNETS MUSIC VIDEO COMPLETE!
THE SANDY FISHNETS MUSIC VIDEO IS COMPLETE!
We had a LOVELY premiere screening at philadelphia's the Fire and enjoyed a fantastic performance from the one and only Jason Webley. The music video will premiere publicly soon, and I will post it up here and show you all!
In the meantime, I will tease you all with this segment:
REVISION: I had to take the video down because for some reason whenever I post something from video with sound, it plays automatically and I cannot for the life of me figure out a way for it to stop doing that!
And while you're at it, you might as well enjoy "Hocky Star"

AUGENBLICK
Hey! I don't know why I haven't posted this sooner, seeing as this is my third week...buuuut, I'm interning at Augenblick! Its a studio in Brooklyn that is responsible for Superjail (Adult Swim) and Ugly Americans (Comedy Central).
So I am literally working on the second season of Ugly Americans! Take that character animation and background design for 2 days a week every week for a full day! RAWR!
So, now I am officially excusing myself from posting on wednesdays or thursdays, heh.

NAKED LADY CAKE IS COMPLETE
Naked lady cake was a success! I made delicious cake pops from the leftover cake and it WASN'T the disaster I thought it would be! I'm also rather proud of my amateur forays into chocolate art with little flowers. Once you figure out the consistancy of the melting chocolate and a steady hand, its rather fun!
The chrysanthemum flowers were made by cutting mini marshmallows diagonally in half and applying them on top of the still wet cake pops in 3 layers.

NAKED LADY CAKE
Concept: Naked woman has a dress made out of cake. So the more you eat...
I'm rather proud of the result. I honestly didn't think I could pull this off! I baked a chocolate cake, transfered it to a framed painting of a naked lady, used a dress stencil (based on the naked lady you see me painting right now) and a pizza cutter (MUCH BETTER THAN KNIVES!) to cut out the dress, Adriel frosted, and I decorated with white flowers. Flower smade out of melting chocolate, bought candy roses, and piped icing. Never did any of this kind of cake decorating before...
I used the rest of the cake to make cake pops. Will upload with more photos later!

BRIEF HIATUS
I haven't posted for about a week, and will probably not post again till the first. I am finishing up work on Sandy Fishnets, and can't wait to leak more juicy little tidbits as they go along.

Off the Leash - Puppet Test
